Mary Shindell

Drawing has an intimacy that exists for me in no
other medium. I try to build a surface using
layers of line and pattern. I move between
drawing and printmaking in terms of transposing
technique from one medium to the other, as
well as for respite when resolving a difficult
problem. This method enables me to produce a
visual statement with the drawing as its most
formal pursuit, using images abstracted from
organic or environmental forms as a basis for the
process and product which evolve.
